Education:

Ph.D. Environmental fluid Mechanics & Hydrology, Stanford University

M.S., Environmental Engineering & Science, Stanford University

B.Sc., Environmental Engineering, University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada

Research:

Modeling and optimization methods for environmental systems, geostatistical interpolation and inverse modeling methods, atmospheric inverse modeling for greenhouse gas flux estimation.

Specializations and Research Interests

Dr. Michalak's research interests focus on characterizing complexity and quantifying uncertainty in environmental systems with the goal of improving our understanding of these systems and our ability to forecast their variability.  Her current research interests focus on atmospheric greenhouse gas emission and sequestration estimation, use of remote sensing data for earth system characterization, and water quality monitoring and contaminant source identification.  The common theme of her research is the development and application of statistical and geostatistical data fusion methods for optimizing the use of limited in situ and remote sensing environmental data.  She is also interested in the environmental policy, economic and legal impact and applicability of environmental research.
