The Journal of Climate published a paper from Professor Xianglei Huang, which establishes a more rigorous metric for evaluating outgoing longwave radiation and cloud radiative effect simulated by climate models than what has been traditionally used.
The paper, “Longwave band-by-band cloud radiative effect and its application in GCM evaluation,” is the fourth peer-reviewed paper from Huang’s group on this topic.
Professor Huang states, “The series of studies presented the full algorithm of deriving such metric from currently available observations, showed their application in climate model evaluations, and demonstrated its superiority over the broadband radiative flux, the metric traditionally used in the climate model evaluation.”
